Lohri

  We celebrate Lohri every year on January 13, the day of spring. Although Lori is the main festival of Punjabis, but people of any community and religion can celebrate it. Each festival brings a unique joy to us. Lohri is also one of them. Let's know about Lohri.

 Meaning of Lohri

Lohri was earlier called Tilodi. The word is derived from the combination of the term Til + rodi. Which changed over time and became lohri. Lohri is the main festival of Punjabis. In many areas of Punjab, such Loh, Loi are also called. On this day people celebrate it by distributing sesame seeds to each other.

What can Lohri's day do? 

On Lohri, people eat and distribute laddus made of jaggery and sesame among themselves. On this day, people burn and sing fire and dance around it as soon as evening. The peanut mole in the fire also sacrifices the Revd Makki.

What dish to make

 On the day of Lori, one can prepare a dish of Gajak Revdi, groundnut, sesame seeds, ladoo, maize bread and mustard greens.  You can make more Punjabi dish like Chole Bhature, Dal Makhni, Cabbage Shalgam, Carrot ,Pickle, Lassi Rajma Rice etc.

Why celebrate Lohri

It is said that in memory of Saint Kabir's wife Loi, it is celebrated.

And it is also said that after rescuing the girls named Sundari and Mundri from the king, a groom named Bhatti married him to a good boy.

We also call Lohri a festival of Khet Khalian. 

Like the Baisakhi festival, Lohri is also related to the village crop and weather in Punjab.

Radish and sugarcane crop is sown from this heart before Ravi's crop is harvested and kept in the house. Mustard flowers are seen waving in the fields.

The way of celebrating Lohri has changed due to modernity. Now people are going to replace the traditional dress and dish in Lohri with modern clothes and modern dishes. People now participate less in this festival.
